Programme 2008-2009
Johnson Society wreath-laying and annual lunch, 13 December 2008
Unfortunately, Dr Gordon Turnbull, who was to have been the speaker at this year’s lunch, has had to withdraw, owing to ill health. We wish him a full recovery.
We are very grateful to Professor Peter Sabor, who has agreed to lay the wreath and to give the Richard Thrale Memorial Lecture on this occasion. Professor Sabor is Director of the Burney Centre and Canada Research Chair in Eighteenth Century Studies at McGill University.
The wreath-laying will take place at Westminster Abbey at 12:00. The annual lunch will take place at 1:00 at the Jolly Hotel St Ermin’s, following which Professor Sabor will deliver his lecture “United in one performance: Samuel Johnson and Fanny Burney”.
